Laughing Down Memory Lane & Doing Good Along the Way
The moment I realized that I wasn’t the only one whose parents have a basement full of our childhood memories is when I decided to started down this path to donate, sell or keep the items that all have their own stories. The more I shared this plan, the more requests I had for acquiring some of the stuff in the basement, so here we are. The items have been sorted and moved out of the basement so we can begin this stroll down memory lane.
The stories behind random items my brother and I found cleaning my parents’ basement during our visits back home made us laugh. We spent hours going through what our family accumulated.
As we sorted through items to keep, donate or sell, my parents always had a story to go along with them. We loved these stories.
We started working on this project way back in the ‘90s with the intent of having the basement organized within a few years. We made some great progress, but when he passed away ten years ago, I had to find another way to make an impact, not only in the basement, but in other people’s lives.
Selling Nostalgia & Giving Back
My brother always gave as much as he could, and usually more.
In his memory, we’ve donated over 1,000 toys from the basement to Toys for Tots and raised over $25,000 for college scholarships that were awarded in 2021 to several high school students at our alma mater.
Hitz & Giggles is the next way for us to honor my brother as we share random facts about items from the basement and the history as we remember it. We know you’ll see some familiar items that will take you back to that time.
Every Wednesday we’ll add an item or two that will be available for purchase. We will also have surprise items for sale periodically where you’ll receive something fun sight unseen. Trust us that the items will be fun for you or someone on your list!
We often shopped in our parents’ basement, especially for milestone birthday gifts, throwback party supplies and white elephant gifts. We crush at white elephant parties!
The money earned through the sales of these items will be used for random acts of kindness for family, friends and strangers. If you have someone who needs a laugh or a fun memory, let us know and we’ll do our best to help!
